Accucolor Dichroics provide an endless variety of applications

Dichroics and Halation Solution

WHAT IS HALATION?

The noticeable color shift at the edge of the dichroic filter is also known as a halo or “halation”. Halation is due to the angle of incidence changing as the light transmits through the filter. Normal incidence is the case in which the angle of incidence is zero, and the light path is perpendicular to the filter.

AOI

Beam spread of 0-25° no halation
Beam spread of 25-30° may have some halation
Beam spread of 30° + will have halation

DO I WORRY ABOUT HALATION?

Depends on the beam spread and effect you want to achieve.
Halation will vary with the type of reflector and the placement of the bulb.
Checking your fixture with a dichroic is recommended.

HOW CAN I USE HALATION?

Halation can be used to create multi-color effects.

HOW DO I REMOVE HALATION?

The “Equal Path™” filter developed by Accucolor corrects the “halation” effect from the light source.
